First stage of archaeological assessment complete. Release of report expected next week. The Stage 1 archaeological assessment of the Negro Burial Ground (now officially the Niagara Baptist Church Burial Ground) has been completed, and is anticipated to be presented by town staff to council, says a news release from the fundraising committee.

Friends of the Forgotten would like to thank Niagara-on-the-Lake council for its unanimous vote on March 21 to support our group’s work in principle. Our mission is to respectfully restore the final resting place of Niagara Baptist Church parishioners buried at the Mississagua Street site known historically as the Negro Burial Ground.
